Joyce DiDonato, mezzo-soprano, with Il Pomo d’Oro, chamber orchestra, performing 'My Favorite Things'

  • Muriel Kauffman Theatre | Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts 1601 Broadway Boulevard Kansas City, MO 64108 United States (map)

Nobody sings Baroque music like Joyce DiDonato: dazzling runs, fiery emotion, and attention to period detail are assured. The evening’s program hand-selected by the megastar mezzo-soprano will include arias by Monteverdi, Gluck, Handel, and Purcell. DiDonato will be joined by the dynamic Italian chamber orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro, performing on authentic period instruments.

Last December, Joyce DiDonato and Yannick Nézet-Séguin stunned Kansas City with a riveting performance of Schubert’s Winterreise. Now, DiDonato returns with the high-energy ensemble that captivated Series patrons with In War & Peace in 2016. Il Pomo d’Oro plays with the passion and power of a rock band, adding electricity to DiDonato’s vocal fireworks. Music’s greatest composers couldn’t ask for better champions. Through their exciting concerts, DiDonato and Il Pomo d’Oro continue to open minds and ears to the glories of Baroque and Classical gems.
