The season opens with the new dynamic dance company, Trey McIntyre Project. With its “fresh and forward-thinking choreography” (Washington Post) the Idaho-based ensemble that debuted in the summer of 2005 was an immediate sensation. “Trey McIntyre is doing something right,” Dance Magazine’s Wendy Perron explained. “Anchored in strong craft, his dances invite the audience to enjoy his mix of classical ballet, playful movement invention, and down-home humor.” The company will perform McIntyre's acclaimed 2007 creation Wild Sweet Love, danced to a soundscape of love songs by Queen, Lou Reed, Roberta Flack, José Alfredo Jimenez, The Partridge Family, Felix Mendelssohn, and The Zombies. The evening’s program will include two additional works: McIntyre's 2007 Pork Songs, a playful and pensive work danced to, well, songs about pork; and a brand new commission, Arrantza, in celebration of Basque communities and culture, set to traditional Basque music.
